Kenny Wayne and the Family

Concerts have been a bit bleak as of late, so I’ve been resorting to the more journalistic side of music.  But since my next concert isn’t until next month, I’ll just keep sending stories.  I’ve reached an interesting music trend lately, I don’t really want to listen to what I always listen to.  I scrolled through my library the other day and didn’t really see anything that I wanted to listen to or was due to listen to.  During a point like this, it’s probably a good idea to resort to good old pandora.com and let the music come to you.  I messed around with a few bands, but still was kind of bored.  Until Kenny Wayne Shepherd’s “Blue on Black” kept coming on.  Long story short, blues is the genre that can’t do you wrong.

But naturally with Pandora, when you starting listening to Kenny Wayne, you get a whole lot of blues just like him.  Of course there are some big names with this group, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, BB King, Jonny Lang.  But there’s always a few bands that catch me by surprise.  For me this time, I had forgotten all about The Jeff Healey band.  I kind of feel guilty for admitting that too.  The first time I heard about them was when I saw them in Roadhouse the movie.  Another artists that I was surprised by was Melvin Taylor.  Again, I might be out of the loop for not knowing how popular he is, but now I know.

Even though I felt like there was no music out there that I actually wanted to listen, blues picked me up again.  So the next time you’re in a rut with your music collection, there’s always Kenny Wayne and the Family.
